Our mission is to focus every day on the food safety of the cereals we sell, and on our genuine relationships with customers and suppliers. We seek to be constantly aware of new market demands and to meet our customers’ requirements in the best possible way.
The firm was founded on 30th December 1965, thanks to the efforts of the Sabena brothers Giorgio, Mario and Lorenzo, who took over the Fratelli Ghione company. The early stages were an uphill struggle, since in Monasterolo alone, there were two other “granatin”, or grain traders. Initially the market was local, but with time business increased to the regional level.
In the 1970s, the company underwent a comprehensive restructuring, with Mario and Lorenzo departing to focus on other things, but the same period saw the arrival of Giorgio’s wife Franca. Towards the end of the 80s the business developed from a regional operation to an international one, with the start of grain purchases from France.
The period between 1995 and 2000 saw the expansion of the firm, with the building of a new storage facility and a dryer for maize; the project was completed in 2005 with the opening of the new present-day retail outlet, in addition to the firm’s head office. The facilities were further enlarged in 2015, coinciding with the firm’s 50th anniversary.
In 2016 we obtained the German QS certification for the quality and safety of our cereals; this was followed in 2017 by certification for the trade and storage of organic products.
To date, our firm has established commercial relations at European level, specifically with France and Eastern Europe, in addition to the national market, primarily in the north of Italy.
In 2019 the UNI EN ISO 22005: 08 supply chain certification was obtained for Piedmontese maize.
2021 saw the inauguration of a new cleaning and grading plant for cereals and pulses, allowing the company to expand into new market sectors. We also constructed new rapid loading silos in order to considerably accelerate goods loading operations.
